This European protection highlights the soil of production.

Which products are concerned ?
The AOP is the name of a region, a limited area or a country. Its policy is to highlight a unique product that cannot be produced in another area. Its characteristics are essentially a result of its geographic origin which include natural and human factors.

The whole production and transformation process must take place in one and same area, i .e : the Camargue bull, Rocamadour cheese, Muscat du Ventoux wine...
What about in France ?
In order to obtain the term AOP from the European Community, the product must already benefit from the " Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée " (AOC) label. Wines and eaux - de - vie have special regulations and are not concerned by the AOP.

Today in France, 63 AOP filing requests (outside of the wines and spirits sector) have been approved for the AOP label. 55 of them received it and 8 are in the process of obtaining it from the European union.
