A policy with indeniable economic power.
In addition to the companies' brand labels, France developed 5 quality and origin labels which allow the identification of products that have a real quality or specificity.
These labels are an asset for producers and professionals who belong to the rural world. By linking quality, specificity and soil, they protect the traditional production areas and enhance human kow-how.
The quality and origin policies concern about 180 000 farmers, 4 800 agro-food companies (arisans, small and medium-size companies and/or industrials) and suppliers (hatch-baskets, foodstuffs companies…) It also concerns 5 300 distributors, super/hypermarket chains and retailers (80%). In 1998, its turnover reached 116 billion Francs.
