For several years now, the Ministry of Agriculture an Fisheries gives the responsibility of the promotion of the concours general agricole to the regional chambers of agriculture, and  through the committee of promotion network and their federation, the FNCRA.

This official event of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries and CENECA, has met in competition since 1870. The best agricultural products are on display, from  wine, dairy products, cider, beer, foie gras, oysters, to cured meats .. .

The finals are held each year during the Salon International de l'Agriculture. The products are judged, totally anonymously, on the basis of organoleptic criteria: appearance, colour, smell, taste ... The jurors are experts representing the whole chain from production to consumption: producers and processors, traders and distributors, technicians, winemakers, sommeliers, restaurant owners and ‘sophisticated’ food fans... 

In 2008, 4194 medals (1564 gold, 1606 silver, 1024 bronze) were awarded to the 17758 entries, a success rate of 23,62 %.
